Viessmann Generations Group invests in VENIOS, strengthening smart distribution grids for the energy transition

September 29 2026. Viessmann Generations Group (VGG) has acquired a minority stake in Venios GmbH, a specialist in the digitalisation and automation of distribution grids. Together, the two companies aim to further develop the Venios.NET software platform and leverage synergies within the VGG ecosystem. The platform enables predictive grid operation, thereby contributing to a secure and resilient energy supply for the benefit of grid operators and consumers.

The growing share of renewable energy, the electrification of heating and mobility, and new regulatory requirements are increasing the complexity of distribution grids. Venios.NET consolidates measurements, meter readings, and grid and master data from different systems into a single grid model. This creates a digital representation of the distribution grid, from low to medium voltage, providing visibility into areas of the grid that have previously remained largely opaque.

On this basis, Venios.NET enables real-time monitoring, congestion management and grid control. Precise data, forecasts and simulations help identify bottlenecks at an early stage and provide actionable recommendations for grid operation, grid planning and asset management. This allows grid operators to act faster and more proactively, enhancing grid stability and security of supply.

With this investment, Viessmann Generations Group is further expanding its activities in grid infrastructure. In 2024, VGG acquired GRITEC, a provider of ready-to-connect technical buildings, transformer substations and services for energy and other critical infrastructure. These solutions support reliable and comprehensive energy supply across increasingly decentralised grids.

GRITEC’s hardware and VENIOS’ software complement each other seamlessly. Combining hardware and software reduces complexity in data management and procurement, while enabling an integrated approach to strengthening and further developing the resilience of distribution grids.
